He noticed in recent years an increasing trend for clients and potential clients to seek quotes from 2 or more solicitors before proceeding with an appointment of a particular solicitor. Often this was not done with the intention of leaving their existing solicitor but simply to help them negotiate on fees. This trend is similar to that being experienced by other service industries including real estate agents (particularly after the deregulation of fees), settlement agents and accountants.

With the rapid increase in the use of the Internet and email, Steven saw the potential benefit of this website for both consumers of services in making it easy for them to obtain quotes, and for suppliers of services in being able to bring potential clients to them without undertaking expensive marketing. Unlike other websites which offer the ability to obtain quotes for services, this website identifies the information needed by service suppliers to provide an accurate quote, and ensures that suppliers of a particular service in the relevant location have equal opportunity to participate in the giving of a particular quote.
